Dual Citizen daughter wishing to study in UK..Need visa?

Post by winneymj » Thu Jul 13, 2017 2:43 pm

Hi,
I live in the USA and both myself and wife are UK citizens. (We are actually dual UK/US after 20 years here)
I have a daughter who is also a dual citizen (US/UK), born in US to British parents and she has a British and US birth certificates.
She has decided she would like to study in the UK at a British University of 3 years, and I am having a hard time figuring out if she needs a Tier 4 Student Visa.
She does not right now have a British passport...but we could apply for one.
Question: If we get her a British Passport (Being a British citizen holding a British passport), do we still need a Tier 4 student visa?

Any help is appreciated.
Mark.

She does not need a visa. A British citizen cannot apply for a UK visa anyway as they are free to live and work in the UK

She won't qualify for student finance though. She will have to pay the fees herself.

First UK passport for dual citizen USA/UK supporting document question

Post by winneymj » Sun Feb 11, 2018 5:54 pm

Hi,
My wife and I are UK citizens living in USA and my dual citizen daughter (born in USA and has a British and US birth certificates) has just been accepted to a UK university to study for 3 years. We are applying for her first UK passport so that she does not need a student Visa and I have a question on the parents supporting documents section of the application
My wife and I are Dual UK/US citizens and we have current USA passports but expired UK passports.

Table B says:
For parents: "The passport you entered the country from which you are applying, and if different, any non-British passport held"

My question is are they asking for the passport we used last time I entered the USA?
We have made multiple trips back to UK, and sometimes we did use our older, but now expired UK passports, Last time we used our current USA passports.

Any help is appreciated
Mark.
