Tier2 General vs General shortage visa

Post by inmab2 » Wed Feb 28, 2018 11:30 am

Hi,
I started to work in UK as Lead Engineer which falls under Tier 2 shortage occupation list. I got promoted as Engineering Manager (which is not listed in shortage occupation list).

If I switch job,
1. will it be a Tier 2 General or shortage visa. How do I check if 'Engineering Manager' falls in the list of occupations under General category?
2. I have completed two years now. Will my new visa be given for three years or five years? Am I eligible to apply for ILR after total five years in UK (under different visa sponsors)?

They are both GENERAL visas. The requirements for shortage occupation SOCs and non shortage occupation SOCs is different. What is the SOC for your promotion postion? Area you already working in this position?

It will be issued for as long as the CoS states. You cannot hold a Tier 2 General for more than 6 years.

For ILR you need 5 years residence and must meet all the requirements, regardless of how many sponsors you have had.

Yes. I am already working in this new position for more than a year. The SOC code is 2123 in the visa. But I could not find the SOC code for Engineering Manager in Electrical Transmission and distribution industry. I understand that within the same sponsor, role change does not affect. If it is not listed in SOC, can I not apply for this post? Will I be eligible to get an offer and visa

Dear Sir,
1.I was working as under Tier2 General shortage visa as Engineer and then got promoted as Engineering Manager. I am applying for following jobs in other companies, but no responses yet. is it due to Visa restriction? -
Engineering Manager,
Head of Engineering
Head of Operations
Operations Manager
Business development Manager

2. are there engineering / Managerial jobs which are not covered under Tier2 General/General Shortage visa?

3. If So, Can I expect companies I am applying for will be able to transfer my Visa type from Tier 2 General to some other type?

Thanks for your response
