Apply British citizen directly from home country for a UK born child

Post by vvenu88 » Tue Mar 13, 2018 2:22 pm

Hi All,
I currently hold Tier 2 general visa and I am eligible for ILR in Jan 2019, I got a UK born child who is about 1.8 years and he currently holds an Indian passport. I have not applied a dependent visa yet for him.
We have plans to go to home country (India) after I get my ILR. Can I apply directly for British passport from India (without my child holding a UK visa). Also, are there any things to be taken care before I leave UK?

No as your child is not British and only British citizens can apply for a British passport.

You have to register your child as British on form MN1, currently costs almost £1000, this is separate to the passport application. Fees go up each April.
