Using a joint bank statement as proof of finance

Post by ogradyjam » Tue Mar 13, 2018 10:14 pm

Hi guys,

This is my first post on here and thank you so much in advance for your help!

I was preparing my spouse's application today after waiting for 6 months in the UK to have the necessary 6 months-worth of bank statements to prove my outgoings/ingoings etc. However, I went to the bank, had the statements printed and stamped but got home to realise that my mother is a joint account holder (embarrassingly)!!! I really want to know whether this is going to effect me when the immigration official looks at my application? My mother does not use the account and put her name on years ago when I was travelling a it was easier to transfer funds. However, her name is on each page (and this cannot be removed retrospectively according to the bank). Will this along with 6 moths of payslips suffice or will it be a sticking point? You can see clearly my company paying me and that I pay local bills etc.

I reallllly appreciate any guidance as I will only be able to afford this application once so I can't bear the thought that it is unsuccessful but I also want to be reunited with my wife ASAP and want to apply before the fees inevitably rise in April!

If you have the joint bank account with your mother and your name is visibly appearing on the bank statement then I don't think there should be any problem as long as the pay slip credits matches with bank statement. It can only cause problem where you will be meeting financial requirement through saving route but in your case you are working. But to clarify it you should write a brief covering letter or write in additional info section on the form.
The opinion expressed as above is neither a professional advice nor contesting/competing to other member's opinion/advice.
