Becoming a British citizen rules and other questions.

Post by Mohammed24 » Sun Mar 18, 2018 8:24 pm

Hi,

1. I've just read the following from the Gov.uk website regarding becoming a British citizen:
you were in the UK exactly 3 years before the day the Home Office receives your application
I'm really shocked to have come across this -and by total coincidence as well!

Does the above mean that one cannot exit the UK AT ALL for the three years prior to application?

2. What are the next steps after being granted FLR(M)?
Are the financial requirements still the same?
- either £62,500 in savings or a salary of £18,600 PA?

Thank you! :D

Does the above mean that one cannot exit the UK AT ALL for the three years prior to application? You have misunderstood. It means you must have been present in the UK on the equivalent date 3 years prior to the date of application.

- either £62,500 in savings or a salary of £18,600 PA? Yes, under current requirements (if you are referring to an ILR application).

Thank you! :D

No it does not mean that. It means on the date that you apply or HO receives the application, the applicant must have been physically present in the UK on the exact same date 3 years previously, i.e. not out of the UK on holiday for example. If you were not physically in the UK at the start of the 3 year preidod, your application will be refused. So the applicant needs to make sure they meet this requirement and apply accordingly.

Yes, the requirement for FLR(M) extension and ILR remain the same. Not applicable to British citizenship though.
