AN via JCAP: keep exisiting passport?

Hi,
I'm preparing my AN application online and intend to use our Council's NDRS + JCAP service.

My query is whether the Council would send away my original passport if I applied for a British passport jointly at the same time?

I'm aware they will make photocopies of any documents and certify them for AN. However, it is not clear to me whether I get to retain my existing passport if I went for the joint passport application (JCAP) route.

Any clarification would be gratefully received. Thanks!

No they don't send it to HO.
