Urgent query re MN1

Post by jane666 » Thu Mar 29, 2018 12:53 pm

Apologies if this has been covered before, but I'm in a bit of a panic!

To hopefully make things easier, I'll ask my question first, and then give you the background.

The Guidance Notes for MN1 state:

"The date of application is the date it is received by the Home Office or the receiving authority."

As I intend to submit the application online, I would like to know whether the date of application receipt is an automatic process (i.e. if I send the application tonight at midnight, will I receive confirmation that the application was received tonight at midnight) or does it require someone in the Home Office to hit a button or some such to acknowledge receipt?

Ok, here's the background. I have UK nationality by descent. My children were born in the US in 2000 and 2002, and we (me, children, Belgian husband, now divorced) moved to the UK in 2004 and have resided here ever since.

As my children have dual US/Belgian nationality, I did not register them for UK nationality. What with Brexit, I realised that I probably should register both children.

And yes, I realise that I should have thought to do so MUCH sooner, but here's my issue:

My eldest child turns 18 on April 2nd (i.e. this coming Monday...). I did not realise that if I do not register her as a child, she will need to go through the naturalisation process until today, which seems more complex.

I therefore started filling out the application form this morning, and could in theory submit it this afternoon/evening. However, given the holiday weekend, if the receipt of the application requires human intervention, then it will be past her 18th birthday before I receive that, and hence there will have been no point.

If, on the other hand, the receipt is generated automatically, then I should be ok, right?

I'd really appreciate any advice from people who have gone through the online process, specifically with respect to the application receipt process.

Thanks!

For online, date of application is the date you pay and submit online.

Under which section of the nationality act are you registering them under??

Thanks for the rapid reply!

We'd be applying under Section 3(5).
