Good character/ language requirements

Post by dhruv_ » Fri Apr 20, 2018 10:11 am

Hey guys

Couple of questions please:

1. I did masters from UK uni but could not pass the course so I was awarded PG Diploma. Will that fulfill language requirement? I also have expired IELTS.

2. I have 1 year arrears of council tax. It’s not in court and I will pay it by instalments. Will this go against good character criteria?

Thank you.

According to the Home Office guidance on Knowledge of Language and Life in the UK, applicants holding a postgraduate diploma, or a graduate diploma from a UK university, are considered to have the required level of English for a settlement or citizenship application. This is stated on page 16. You might want to add a copy of that page to your application just to 'refresh' the official's memory.

You need to make sure that you mention the arrears. Better to be open that to give the impression that you are concealing something. You must show evidence that there is some sort of payment plan in place or you may fail the Good Character requirement - Q20 pertains to you.

Thank you Twine

So Home office checks the council tax payments even if I do not use JCAP process?

NCS using JCAP is only a document receiving and forwarding agent and nothing more. ALL the checks that are done are done by the Home Office and yes, they do check council tax.
