Visa confusion for my daughter born in India

Post by agrawal_c » Fri Apr 27, 2018 11:39 am

Hi

Both I and my wife are British citizens, and we were blessed with a daughter last year. We have applied for her British passport in November 2017 and still haven't received it.

I have two questions:

1. How long does it normally take to receive British passport when it is applied for from India?

2. Once she gets her British passport, what visa will we need to apply for her to be able to fly in and out of India. I am aware that OCI card is an option, but that will take time. I have taken up a job in Malaysia and would like her to be able to come to Malaysia at the earliest.

My dilemma is that at present she doesn't have any right to be in India without any visa on her British Passport (once she receives it).

Thank you very much in advance.

Kind regards
Charchit

Thank you very much. 6 to 12 months sounds a lot of time. Is there a way she can fly out of India without getting a British Passport? Like an interim travel document, or on her mother's passport?

I will post the other query on the different forum, posted on this one because I thought it is in relation to British Citizenship only.

Thanks
Kind regards

No, unfortunately not. She needs her own passport.

I see. Ok thanks a lot, although I am bit disappointed by how long the process takes!

Thanks again.
