exemption from the Life in the Uk test

Post by ivetalopes » Fri May 04, 2018 12:47 pm

Hi there,

My husband is about to apply for Naturalization as British citizen but is struggling studying for the test Life in the UK.

He suffers from long term anxiety and panic disorders and is on medication. He has trouble remembering things. He sees the GP and has also seen a private psychiatrist. Do you think he may be exempt from having to take this test if the doctor confirms he has a condition?

Thanks

Hi ,

thanks for the link. I have read it but I am not sure whether having anxiety and panic attacks would be classed as a long term mental illness? Has anyone had any such experience?

Thanks

You would need documentary medical evidence to claim possible exemption.

The only thing we have is prescriptions and we can also get a letter from the GP and the psychiatrist to confirm all of this. Is that what you mean by medical evidence? Thanks

yes. you need the letter from doctor to confirm the illness and also he is not suitable to sit the test.

and of sound mind is one of key criteria to be Naturalisd. i don't know how serious is your husband and mental illness is not necessary to make a person not of sound mind.

HO will likely want to see more historical medical evidence than just a single GP letter (which to be honest, anyone can get a GP to write anything), for example other NHS support services etc.

He is of sound mind just has suffered with depression and anxiety for many years. He also attended counsiling through the NHS which I suppose we can ask for some kind of document. He can also take a letter from a private Consultant Psychiatrist who he saw
