Visiting UK from Honduras

Post by Arthur Blackpudding » Mon May 14, 2018 12:29 pm

I am aware that people from Honduras can visit the UK for 6 months without a visa, however when they arrive at Customs would they need to provide evidence that they will be leaving the country, ie already have a flight booked home in order to be let in the country?

Or can we just book the return flight at a later date?

Thanks.

Together with a return flight ticket, you should also to be prepared to show the same evidence of reasons to return to Honduras that you would have submitted with a visitor visa application. The IO will want to be convinced that you won't overstay in the UK.

Strong ties to the home country such as proof of permanent employment, ongoing study college/university, dependent family members etc. Also essential to show financial self-sufficiency and sufficient funds to cover your stay in the UK.

How long do you intend to visit?

By the way, checks aren't made by Customs officers. These are carried out by UK Border Control before being permitted to pass through the customs area.

OK thanks. I'm from the UK. The person from Honduras will be visiting me.

She has a full time job at the moment, she will be visiting me for 6 months so not sure what that will mean for her job.

6 months is not a 'visit'.

Well what do you consider it then if it's not a visit? :?

Anyway, with regards to having evidence that she will be leaving, I've just remembered we were actually looking at flights from Honduras to Madrid, because the routes are better, also means she wouldn't have to go via the US (where she would need a visa I think just for transit) and I'd fly over to Madrid have a couple days and then we'd fly to the UK.

Considering her return flight would be from Madrid, that would cause problems at UK Border Control? Cos although it's a ticket back home it's not a ticket out of England....

Won't she have booked a flight from the UK to Madrid?

The IO at UK Border Control is also likely to ask her how she plans to spend her time in the UK...even more so if she requests an entry for 6 months!

If you are in a relationship together, her intentions to return home are more likely to come under scrutiny,

I suppose we could just get a ticket for her back to Spain way in advance.

Well for the 6 months she can say she'll be based in England but plans to visit other places in Europe, which we do, also she wants to learn English.

I would be cautious with that. From the Immigration Rules:
Study
V 4.8 The applicant must not intend to study in the UK, except as permitted by paragraph 25 of Appendix 3.

Crucially, what evidence of social and economic ties will she be able to show on entry? I'm assuming her employer won't give a written guarantee that her job will be held for 6 months ready for her return?

You may find it helpful to read through the relevant guidance for visitors requesting entry at the UK Border.
