Does Debt in ZA hinder my chances of getting my Ancestral Visa approved

Hi Everyone.
My Hubby is a Brit. We have been married for 12 years this year and he has decided he wants to return to the UK. I have access to Ancestral Visa via my grandma and we are going to go this route rather than the Spousal Visa as it is the cheaper of the 2 and god forbid should something happen to either one of us - it will not affect the other. My problem is that I am at present paying off a loan - would that make it harder for me to get an ancestral Visa? I do plan to keep paying it as I will be working in the UK if I am granted Ancestral Rights? Thanks for any advice in advance.

Your immigration health surcharge is more though and you have to have evidence of the equivalent of £1600 in the bank and evidence of your intent to work in the UK.

No. Your debt in SA has nothing to do with an Ancestry visa.

Thanks for the awesome response - our problem is that due to issues here in ZA of unemployment - my husband has not worked - so the UK govt requires a 62500GBP savings account in order to ensure we can support ourselves for the Spousal Visa. I can prove that I have been employed for more than 6 years but he has not been able to find work in that amount of time.

For a spouse visa, he could come to the UK ahead of you and work for 6 months and then apply.

But if you qualify for ancestry, then do that, easier to get. You will need to prove you have savings though. I had to prove R25,000 held for a minimum of 3 months without any dip down in balance.

No. It must be your funds. If parents 'gift' you money, it must still be held in an accessible account in your name.

Do you have all the unabridge and vault copy birth/marriage certificates??

Don't forget that you have show intent to work in the UK. I submitted email correspondence with employment agencies as evidence I have contacted them etc.

I have my grandmothers Birth and Marriage certificates as well as her passport. She is deceased. and then I have my parents birth and marriage certificates. How long after must the money remain in the account? for the Full 5 years?

No you don't have to keep for the full 5 years. It is required to prove you can support yourself without recourse to public funds following your initial entry to the UK.

You also need proof of accommodation in the UK.

So visa would cost you £516 visa fee plus £1,000 Immigration Health Surcharge (due to double in price likely towards the end of the year).

Are the birth certificates all unabridged, i.e. list both parents details and childs? Cannot be the short birth certs that only list the child.

Wow okay so apply shortly before the fee doubles. I will check on those certificates now and apply for the full ones if I do not have them as yet.

My Grannies British passport does not give me ancestral rights apparently as it was issued in Ceylon.

She was Born in Kandy to British Subjects - I have her passports in front of me - birth Place Kandy - Nationality British Citizen

Then no, you don't qualify for an Ancestral visa. The requirement is to have a UK born grandparent.

Looks like spouse visa is your route then with the more stringent requirements.

Apparently the required amount is going up at the end of the year is that correct? Once I am there does my salary get included in the income?

Yes, at least £18,600pa for a minimum of 6 months OR have at least £62,500 in savings held in either or joint names.

Really?? Where did you hear that?? IHS is potentially doubling but not the financial requirement.

For your visa extension after 2.5 years, yes.

Right now his tickets have been finalised I am back to working on what we need to be doing in order to get our spousal Visa approved. With regards to proof of relationship I am battling - as we have only Doctors bills that are in both our names. We have however been together for the better part of 16 years and married for 12.
1. Do I need an Unabridged Marriage certificate for the Visa application
2. Other than whatsapp chats and Photos is there anything else we need to get in order to prove we have been together. 3. Whilst he is in the UK working and saving to get me there - will it be a problem for me to get a visitors Visa to visit him as him leaving to come and see me will impact his earnings? I have a permanent Job here that I am not willing to relinquish until I am certain we can meet the requirements for the Spousal Visa.

You don't need proof of relationship if applying before your spouse goes. Proof of relationship will be required if your spouse comes to the UK for 6 months before you, i.e. evidence of communications etc.

2. Required for the time you are apart. What about evidence of your property where you live?? It does not have to be in JOINT names,can be individually addressed to the same address. Unlikely you will get a visitor visa if your husband is in the UK, what strong ties to home country will you show??

The problem with applying before he leaves is that he is going to live with his parents and look for work before I can go over as at the moment we do not even close to meet the requirements. He will then have to make sure he does his job hunting in a hurry so I can get there soon!

I still have my job and responsibilities here that I need to deal with. Would a Letter from my current employer not suffice?
