Hi everyone,
Hope you guys can help me with my situation. I know quite a few people here have queried about this issue but I haven't been able to find the thread that gives me an exact answer to my scenario.
I am holding a Vietnamese passport and wish to keep this. In Vietnam we don't change name after marriage, therefore my name on the passport and my ILR BRP card still shows my birth name. However I've been using my married name for for the last 5 years since I was married for all other official purposes such as employment, driving license, tax and bills, etc.
I am applying for British citizenship at the moment and wish to be naturalised and granted a British passport in my married name (First, middle name + my husband's surname). I have the below 2 questions:
1. Will my application likely be approved if I provide the below document:
- marriage certificate
- evidence of my married name being noted on my Vietnamese passport observation page
- letter from Vietnamese embassy to me confirming something like "We do not change name following marriage. To change name, we need to change from birth certificate and this will be complicated and impact all of my legal document held in Vietnam"
2. ONLINE FORM :
Shall I put my married name in section a) and birth name in section b). If so, do I choose Marriage? or Other and explain that's my maiden name? The reason why I am not sure about this section is it looks like the name you fill in section a) will be what appears on your citizenship certificate.
a) Personal Information (shown as passport):
Title:
All given names:
Family name:
b) Other name
Title:
All given names:
Family name:
Why have you been known by another name? (option: marriage/civil partnership, divorce or other)
Thank you in advance for all your help.
