Switch from tier 2 dependant to tier 2 General

Post by mmohame2 » Thu Jun 14, 2018 12:13 pm

Hi,

My wife is switching from tier 2 dependant to tier 2 General that is sponsored by her work. Questions are:

1- Does she need to apply from outside the country? I saw something on gov.uk site about Ph.D. students (she was initially on tier 4 and she finished Ph.D. in the UK).

2- She has both US and Egypt passports, she wants to apply using US passport, can she still use the British embassy in Egypt (as she will be on holidays in Egypt)?

3- How long does it usually takes from the time does she apply to the embassy until she gets her passport back?

Thanks,
Moustafa

1. Yes, she has to apply from home country. She is not switching from Tier 4.

2. She has to apply in the country where she has legal residence. Questions might be asked, they might not.

3. It can take up to 8 weeks. Many people are experiencing delays.

Any particular reason she doesn't want to use her Egyptian passport?
