Most of government even private offices/bodies now start deploying concierge person who is like a corporate security officer who is multi trained but definitely don't be able to give advise on immigration matters.
The opinion expressed as above is neither a professional advice nor contesting/competing to other member's opinion/advice.

The poor quality advice given by the 'help line' is due to the service being outsourced to an agency, with staff having a very limited knowledge of the Immigration Rules. Neither will they take responsibility for any incorrect advice given and the consequences.
Agreed.

Sitel UK are just in it for what they can get out of it. From its website "......The Service will focus on delivering cost-effective multilingual services to provide information and support for UK and international citizens when submitting visa applications......"

What a load of old pony!

They provide no information or support with any meaningful value. In essence the cost to use its email and phone "help service" is nothing more than a money making scam! Ask me how I know......

I am really regretting not making a post on this forum while I was still in the US right now. I really love where I'm at right now and am dreading going back to the US, but it is what it is. My wife won't be able to come back to the US with me, as it is way too much money to fly her back and forth. I should be able to do all the visa stuff while I'm there on my own though right? I want to be as prepared as I can possibly be before I leave, so we're going to fill out the appendix, and the majority of the visa app before I leave so I can submit it asap when I get back. I was wondering if there might be anything else I should know about for my first time visa, the last time we sent:

Pictures and conversations
Marriage Certificate
Council Tax & Proof of tenancy
Both Passports
P60
12 months worth of wifes payslips
Wife's bank statements
Declarations
Letter from employer

If there's anything else you can think of it would be greatly appreciated as I really don't want to have a 2nd rejection. Hoping the first rejection doesn't affect the timing on the 2nd application. Also I'd assume I can't leave the US and come to the UK on a visitor visa while the visa is being processed. Thanks guys

Utility bills? Please make sure that bank statements etc to be submitted are either original or, if they are printed from computer, they are stamped by The issuing bank. If this is the cse I would suggest EVERY page is stamped.

Making a start on the forms before you return to USA is probably a great idea. Thats what we did. The papers were then ready for my wife to submit when she returned to Jersey.i should say though, given my wifes lack of IT skills (and my OCD :D ) I flew out for a week to make sure everything was in order. As luck would have it her Biometrics appointment in Elizabeth NJ happened before I flew home so I was able to go with her for some moral support.

I do understand thought that, as we were married at that point, once I cleared US Immigration it was unlikely I would be deported should I overstay (not that it ever crossed my mind as I would talk to any future plans we had and whilst illegal I could not work). I was also a bit concerned that the IO may not let me clear US Immigration. I therefore went via Dublin and cleared US Immi there. Should I be barred from entry, it was easier to return to UK from Dublin than it would be if I was barted at Newark airport.

Visiting the UK whilst a residency application is being considered is most likely to be disallowed.

Good luck.

Is my wife going to have to pay the extra money to add me to the tenancy in order to prove accommodation? What about submitting a council tax bill? With settlement visa's the council tax bill isn't required as long as she is making above 18,600 annually correct?

It is not necessary for your name to be on the tenancy for the initial spouse visa. You can still submit a council tax bill, this is separate to the income requirements.

You will however need a letter from the landlord, agreeing to you living in the accommodation.

I was afraid of that, our landlord is lazy and unreliable. It's going to be really annoying trying to get that out of her. Hopefully she'll be sympathetic enough to do it.

Make sure the rented property will be an "adequate accommodation" and your tenancy agreement is valid during application processing period

I see the rule as below.
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/immigration ... ly-members

E-ECP.3.4. The applicant must provide evidence that there will be adequate accommodation, without recourse to public funds, for the family, including other family members who are not included in the application but who live in the same household, which the family own or occupy exclusively: accommodation will not be regarded as adequate if-

(a) it is, or will be, overcrowded; or
(b) it contravenes public health regulations.

What if it's an oral agreement though? My wife says she never signed a tenancy agreement. We have rent payments on the bank statements and a letter from the landlord stating their account number. That'd be the only way to prove anything if the manager decides not to do anything(which given her track record is expected).
