Applying for ancestry visa from outside of Australia

Our question is, can we apply for the ancestry visa from outside of Australia?

We have searched all through the forums and blogs but cannot find this information. Please help!

We are looking to apply for the ancestry visa but we are currently in Colombia (for the next 3 months). There is a UK visa processing centre here. We would like to know whether we have to fly home to apply, which would be terribly inconvenient.

The official guidance (ECB05), on the gov.uk website says "the application should be made in the country in which you are living". This is quite vague? I would say that we are living in Colombia, but we do not have anything else other than a holiday visa here.

We called a paid visa officer at the UK embassy in London, but she was only able to repeat this sentence.

Has anyone else ever applied for this visa overseas?

You must apply in your home country or a country you have legal residence, ie. Not in a country as a visitor.

So if you are only visiting Colombia, then no you cannot apply from there.
