Quick question about Ancestry Visa Renewal.

Post by atoyrobot » Sat Jul 28, 2018 11:05 pm

Hi, hope this is the right place to post this.

My wife is an Australian citizen and has been living in the UK since late 2013 on an Ancestry visa. I moved over here last year from the United States after we got married as a dependent on her visa.

The visa expires in a few months and we plan to renew, however we recently realized that her passport is only valid for another 3 years, not the 5 years that the renewal will last for. My passport is good till 2024 so no worries about that one. We don't plan on staying another 5 years, just another two while we wind things down here at our jobs and prepare to relocate to Australia.

My question is: does my wife need to renew her passport before applying for the renewal? Does a passport have to be valid for the entire length of a visa? If so we need to do it now.

Just looking for a little advice, thanks in advance!
