I would be most grateful if someone could shed some light on this:
I'm an avid traveller and have travelled a fair bit during my ten year residence in the UK - this has amounted to 513 days (excludin days of departure/arrival as I understand these do not count as days of absence) - this is within the limit stated by the Home Office.
My question is regarding how do I prove that these periods of absences were indeed as I have stated in my application form: Many countries that I have visited (few in Europe) did not stamp my passport as I entered their countries, likewise, the UK border agency does not stamp my passport routinely whenever I leave the country either. This means technically it is not possible to work out exactly which day I have left the UK on many occasions - as there is no proof of the date of departure +/- arrival at destination for many of these trips on my passport.
On another hand I have all the inbound stamps for my arrivals in the UK (as this is done every time I return from another country)
I have printed all of the flight booking confirmations +/- e tickets +/- online boarding passes if I had them - would these suffice in proofing my abscenses outside the UK? Would I have to submit all of these documents with my application? (It's a rather thick bunch of paperwork given the number of leisure trips I have made!)
From a personal perspective - isn't this whole 'submitting evidence of absences' a rather silly exercise? The Home Office surely must have a way of checking this with the border agency of how many days we've been away for - and if they didn't how could they prove if someone has chosen not to disclose a period of absence??
Your help would be much appreciated.
Warmest Regards
