English Requirement

Post by cht7520 » Sun Aug 05, 2018 4:59 pm

Hello

I'm doing the application for the second half of the wife's spouse visa. One of them questions in there is for her English Requirement. The wife holds a bachelor's degree from the States.

When we applied for her first period I remember being told by the Home Office that UK NARIC isn't needed for degrees from the States, as it is mainly used for countries with unclear qualifications, but that was back in 2015 before the new forms (7/2018) came out.

Now it says on the form it should be endorsed by UK NARIC, should I call the Home Office to ask if I need to include an endorsement or should I just assume the States are still exempt. Even if the guys on the phone say I don't need it will there be a difference in understanding between them and the caseworkers?

I wanted to ask about all your experiences.

Thanks.

The HO 'help line' is outsourced to an Agency with staff of very limited knowledge on the Immigration Rules. Call them 5 times and you're likely to be given 5 different answers. Neither will they take any responsibility for the consequences of any incorrect advice.

However....You also will not need to prove your knowledge of English if you’re a national of one of the following countries:
The USA is included in this list.

Please don't send me PMs asking for immigration advice on posts that are on the open forum. If I haven't responded there, it's because I don't have the answer. I'm a moderator, not a legal professional.

She's unfortunately not a US citizen, which is why this is a bit of a headache now. She got her visa back then without using UK NARIC and if we can avoid going through this process it'll be much simpler.

Didn't know they were outsourced! Thanks for letting me know.

if you are not US national but only hold US earned degree then HO will more likely want to see Naric red route degree comparability report & English proficiency statement.
