Home Office requesting new English language certificate

Post by Lorenzo99 » Wed Aug 22, 2018 8:20 pm

Hello all,

Long time lurker, first time poster.

I have a question regarding my partners application for citizenship. She should have no problem gaining citizenship, never claimed benefits, has all paperwork for last 5 years, excellent English etc. However the English language certificate she send with her application is from 2 years 2 months ago, so has been returned with a request for a new test certificate within 2 weeks.

She has booked a new English test for Friday and is 100% confident she will pass it, but isn't sure if she will receive the full certificate before the deadline set by the Home Office.

I'm wondering if it is possible to get an extension to the deadline while we wait for the new certificate to be delivered or should we post them the provisional certificate with a letter explaining this?

Thanks for any help received.

Is she a non EU or an EU citizen?

Does she hold ILR under the UK immigration rules or PR under the eea/EU rules?

What level is the test, A1, A2, B1 etc and what test is it, ie ESOL, IELTS etc that was submitted?

Hi, yes she is a Polish national, been in the UK for 12 years has all the documents PR and ILR, the test was a B1 SELT GESE Grade 5.

She did the English test and then dithered on the LITUK but passed it first time. Overlooked the original English test being 2 years before (stupid oversight on our part)

She's booked another test for this Friday (1st available) but will be tight getting the full cert back and posted off in 2 weeks.

That's a pity yes as she has not been required to use it before. You can only use an expired test if it is both on the list of the current approved test centre and at the correct level.

She should get a pass letter on the day which she can send in the meantime and the centre uploads electronically to HO as far as I am aware. Then once she gets the cert in about a week after the test, send that too.

Thanks for the info.

Would it be worthwhile asking for an extension by letter when I send in the provisional certificate?
