can I apply for Uk citizenship/nutralisation after getting permanent card after 6 years

Post by hornet99 » Tue Sep 04, 2018 1:36 pm

Hello,

my question is do i have to wait +1 year after getting my pr stated date, or i can apply for nutralisation after i got my PR as i have already spent 6 years. dates are below.

eea family member 6 month - april 2012

eea family permit - Apr 2013- Apr 2018

permanent pr - july 2018

so its already 6 years i have been living in uk and never went anywhere more than the time limit days.
so can i apply for nutralisation/citizenship or i have to wait until aug 2019.

Regards,

H

You can apply one year after the date PR is effective. If your PR states your PR is granted on X April 2018 u can apply on the same date in April 2019.

thanks for the reply but i think i saw somewhere if you spend 6 years together in uk the date pr is effective, with valid visa.
. you can actually apply for citizenship.thats why wanted to clarify.

Citizenship is based on 5 years residence immediately prior to the date of application. BUT, you MUST have held PR for 12 months. As it takes 5 years to get PR and then 1 year on PR, this is where the 6 years comes form. Just living in the UK for 6 years is not sufficient. You need PR for the full 12 months.

The only time you DO NOT have to hold PR for 12 months is IF you are married to a British citizen.
