I hope someone can clarify.
My wife is in the UK on her first 2.5 year spouse visa. We got married in Pakistan and the English translation was provided with visa application.
In the UK there is a Marriage Allowance which means if husband or wife doesnt work or doesn’t earn much, they can pass £1,190 of their annual tax allowance to the other.
The requirements to get this benefit are:
You can benefit from Marriage Allowance if all the following apply:
a) you’re married or in a civil partnership
b) you do not pay income tax or your income is below your Personal Allowance (usually £11,850)
c) your partner pays income tax at the basic rate, which usually means their income is between £11,851 and £46,350
In respect of a) are me and my wife ‘married’ for this purpose or only for the visa purpose? I understand we cannot get married (again) in UK at register office as we are already married(!).
