UK citizenship for minor children

Post by vslaser » Mon Sep 17, 2018 7:03 pm

Dear friends,
I am going to apply for my ILR next month. After that, my intention is to apply for citizenship in 1 year time (eligible in Nov'19 if everything goes well). The question I have is as under:
My 2 children (currently 9 and 6) have their tier 2 dependent visas till November 2019.
They will be eligible for ILR in April 2019.
If I get my ILR and do not apply for their ILR in April, can I directly apply for their citizenship along with me in November 2019? If this was allowed, it'll save a good amount of money for me given that ILR Costs £2,389 per person.

Thanks for any guidance.

Regards,
Vijay

Where were they born?

If they were born in the UK, you can register them as British citizens directly after you get ILR.

If they were born outside the UK, they can register when at least one parent has or is applying for British citizenship AND the other parent and the child BOTH have ILR. They will also be eligible for ILR only with the other parent. So, what is the UK immigration status of the other parent?

EDIT: CR001, what can one say? Great minds... :D

Thanks for quick responses friends.

The children were born in India and are currently on tier 2 dependent visas. My wife (the mother) is currently on tier 2 dependent but will apply for ILR in April.

Regards,
Vijay

They need to apply for ILR with their mother in April. They have no entitlement to register if born abroad.

They can only then apply for citizenship when either parent applies at the same time or one is already British and the other parent and the children also hold ILR.
