British citizenship for baby

Post by avardhan » Wed Oct 03, 2018 2:22 pm

Hello all,
I received my ILR last week. And my baby is born in India in march 2018 and she is here now.
Can I apply for her british citizenship once I receive my british passport next year ?

Thanks and regards

No you cannot.

A child born abroad has no entitlement to register as British if you only have ILR now or only become British after their birth.

The child will follow the same path as the other parent and will require ILR.

Children born aboard follow the immigration path of the less-privileged parent up to ILR and can register as a British citizen when one parent either has or is applying for British citizenship AND the child and the other parent have ILR. They do not need to wait for a year after getting ILR.
