How difficult is it for Tier-2 (Gen.) dependent to get a Finance job in the UK?

Post by TemporaryPassion » Mon Oct 08, 2018 12:51 pm

Hello All,

I am currently working in the South Yorkshire region on Tier 2 (General) visa. There is a possibility of 3 years extension and therefore I plan to bring my wife to the UK as dependent.

She is a Chartered Accountant from India, has completed Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification from the USA and also holds a Masters in Commerce. She is currently working as a Finance Manager for a multinational IT consulting firm in India. She has total of 9 years of experience. We are anxious about the job market in the UK in her field (Finance and Accounts). Geographically we are located near Manchester. Specific questions are,

Q1: We have heard that the employers are kind of hesitant to offer jobs to Tier-2 dependents. It is true?
Q2: Is it possible to get job in Finance section for a person on Tier -2 (Gen.) dependent visa?
Q3: How job market in the UK? Read in several articles that it is in bad shape since Brexit is happening soon.

She is interested to continue her career path in Manchester and region around South Yorkshire. I personally do not want her to sacrifice or suffer just because she moved as dependent and could not find a job. (I am in academic research sector so completely unaware of scenario in Finance).

Could you kindly offer some insights (or experiences) about how difficult (or easy) to get jobs in Finance and Accounts as a Tier 2 dependent?

Thank you for your help in advance.

1. Not true.

2. Yes, It really depend on the person skills and language ability. Be prepared though for her to possibly find a job and start at a lower level than she is now until she is able to prove herself

3. There are jobs, but if you aim to high you can expect to remain unemployed. You need to be realistic.
