Hi, I'm hoping someone could assist me in figuring out how to apply for a Visa correctly in my situation? I've researched many sites and spoken to advisors with no luck.
I'm an American currently working in the UK as a contractor for the military (since Dec 17) so I have a non-points based work visa (Leave to Enter on my BRP card). I'll be marrying a british national in a couple of weeks (Home Office approved) and wanted to know the correct route for obtaining a Partner, Spouse, Marriage or Family Visa? Not sure which one?
I've been told that since I hold a working Visa already that I can't apply for another Visa until the end of my current one? Then I was told by someone else that I could apply to switch my Visa via an FLR(M) application?
I've also been told that I would have to leave the country to apply while others stated I could apply since I'm already in country? The process is very confusing and I intend on paying the premium service so we can finally live together full time and also find another job at his location (currently living in separate counties due to my job).
I don't want to throw away 1600.00 for the premium rate if I'm applying incorrectly and I don't want to quit my job (lose my work visa) until I know for sure that I'm approved to stay legally. Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

This one (2.5 year Spouse visa) submitted from within the UK. £1,523 visa fee + £610 premium fee +£500 NHS surcharge = £2633

Thanks so much Casa!
Would you know if this Visa would allow me to work with a british company or in the UK period? I already have a National Insurance number and have been paying UK taxes with my current job. Thanks again for the help!!

You are free to work for any employer or not work at all if you choose not to with the FLR(M) spouse visa.

Great!! I wanted to clarify the fee....it states on the main gov site that just myself applying within the UK costs 1033 plus the 610 premium service and of course, the 500 NHS fee. Just making sure the fees haven't changed recently. Thanks again...you've been a Godsend!!

That is the correct fee (for now).

My error. I gave the settlement fee in error for an application outside of the UK.

After I get married, should I fill out my FLR (M) application with my married name or my current name? I have all my required documents in my current name so not sure if this will affect the outcome of the application?

The name that appears in your passport. If you want your married name, you will need to change your passport first.

Hi,
Just wondering if it normally takes a full 8wks to hear a response back on a spouse visa application (no kids) or could it take longer? I submitted my spouse visa package on Nov 5th and completed the biometrics a few weeks later. Does the 8wks period begin after the biometrics are provided? Thank you!
