My son was born in UK in September 2018. At that time I was in Tier 2 (General) visa. In October 2018 I applied for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) in UK and received it. As per UK rule my son is now eligible to apply for a British citizenship as one parent acquired ILR after his birth. I did a little research and found out that I have to apply using MN1 form (form application for registration of a child under 18 as a British citizen). In that form I need to write child’s nationality. Initially I thought that my son would become Indian citizen automatically because both the parents are Indian. However, after doing some investigation we found that “From 3 December 2004 onwards, persons born outside of India shall not be considered citizens of India unless their birth is registered at an Indian diplomatic mission within one year of the date of birth.” (Wikipedia and other sources)
My questions are:
1. Do I need to apply for Indian citizenship for my UK born son before applying for his British citizenship? Or is there any other way?
2. Do I need to apply for my son’s passport also? If yes, do I need to apply for his UK visa before applying for citizenship?
