When to extend existing Tier 2

Post by gzikesff9 » Thu Oct 24, 2019 10:28 pm

Hi,

I got my 3 year Tier 2 visa on 06/01/2017.

I'm due for a renewal January 2020. My current Tier 2 expires on 31/01/2020.

I can apply for an at the end of November, however I was wondering if they would put end of November 2019 as the start date of my new visa.

The reason why I'm asking is, I'd like to apply for ILR after staying 5 years on tier 2, however if they start my Tier 2 extension in November 2019 and it expires November 2021, It'll mean that I won't have 5 complete years on Tier 2 (as the beginning will be 06/01/2017 and expiration will be around 30/11/2019).

Do you think I should wait until January 2020 and apply then?

Thanks

Why don't you extend for 3 years instead of 2 years? If you want to extend for 2 years I would suggest do it as late as possible. But the only problem with that is if unfortunately you make a mistake in the application you won't have time to reapply.

A new visa is valid from date of decision. It is not tagged to start from the expiry date of your current visa. So yes, if you apply too early for a 2 year extension, you will have a shortfall for ilr.

I'm submitting my application via a law firm and when I raised this with them they said that they can tell Home Office to start my new visa from January 2020 even if I apply in November 2019. Is that the case?

I just don't think if they can tell Home Office when to start my new visa.

Has anyone experienced anything like this

The visa will be valid from date of approval and in line with the CoS dates.

Do you mean that if my COS date is starting from January 2020, they will start my new visa from that date too?
Do you think it's best for me to not make my application until January 2020?

timings for changing Tier 2 sponsor

Post by gzikesff9 » Sun Dec 08, 2019 2:14 pm

Hi,

My visa is currently sponsored by my employer but I really would like to change my job.
My current notice period is 3 months and my current visa is valid for another 2 years.
Once I find a new sponsor when do I ask them to start the new cos from? also do I need to submit my current brp and passport when I apply to change my tier 2 sponsor? It's just that I have a lot of travels planned in from April-August and I'm not sure how the timings work.

Let's say I find another sponsor today when should they start the COS from ?
When should I resign ?
Can I still go travelling while I wait for my new brp?

Thanks
