Child born abroad, Parent on ILR

Post by shayel2000 » Tue May 05, 2020 8:14 am

Hey Beautiful People,

I keep getting confused and the info is not straightforward on GOV.UK.

I am about to have a child who will be born outside the UK (Kazakhstan to be precise). I am the holder of ILR. Will my baby be entitled for a british passport? If so what are the procedures of applying for a passport for my child?

Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

No, the child is not British and therefore cannot apply or qualify for a British passport. The child would only be British automatically if born in the UK to a parent holding ilr.

The child will need a visa to come to the UK and will require ilr before they can apply for citizenship.
