Tier2 dependent visa extension minimal period

Post by zhongyuan » Fri Oct 09, 2020 5:23 pm

Hi All,

I have a question regarding the tier 2 dependent extension.

My wife applied for tier 2 dependent visa to joined me after I got my tier 2 visa, here is the problem

since she joined half-way, her first tier 2 dependent visa was granted until my one expires, which is 1 year 10 month.

Her second visa was granted for the whole duration of 3 years.

So in total, she has done 4 years 10 month under tier2 dependent visa category, she only needs extra 2 months to be qualified for her ILR application.

I was just wondering is there a way to save the IHS surcharge fees? can we only pay 6month or 1 year and hope she will only be granted for sufficient time, then we will apply for ILR once she has completed the 5 years.

Many thanks.

Yes - Its is possible. You need to write a cover letter to state you will be paying IHS for 1 year only and grant the visa for one year period. But you will need to pay the full Tier 2 Visa fee for 3 years.

It doesn't work like that. A 3 year visa extension requires 3 years IHS. This is clearly stated in the immigration rules.

Thank you for your reply, what if I only want to extend for a year? Would it be accepted?

You cant. The immigration rules dictate the extension, which is 3 years, particularly if you hold ilr already (you haven't stated what your status is).
