UK tourist visa for green card holders

Post by kakolukia91 » Fri Jan 03, 2025 7:19 pm

Hello,

I'm looking for some advice regarding applying for UK tourist visa for my parents from the US, especially around documents required. Unfortunately they were refused a tourist visa back in 2015 (when they weren't US residents) so we're trying to ensure we have everything covered this time.

My parents are planning to visit me here in the UK (I am a naturalised British citizen). Their US situation is as follows:
They hold US green card (not US citizens yet)
They jointly own their house
They're in full-time employment

They will be staying in our home for the duration of their visit. Would the following be a comprehensive list of supporting documents given their situations?

Current and previous passports
Last 6 months bank statements
Last 6 months payslips
Letter from employer confirming employment
House deed to prove ownership
Invitation letter from myself

What is normally included in the invitation letter? Our home is in my husband's name. Do we need to jointly write the invitation letter, or is it just myself (their daughter) who needs to write it?

As they're staying with us, we are going to be responsible for food, taking them out, etc. Do we need to provide any extra proof like our bank statements, or mention that in the letter? They're paying for their trip, but obviously not food or getting around as they're staying with us.

Thanks

If they have sufficient income and their previous refusal was due to their circumstances (e.g. not related to deception, criminality etc) then what you described as far as I understand should be enough just with a letter from them or you explaining that they are coming to visit you.
I also suggested that if they have young grand children they should say they are coming to visit them NOT to look after them.

Good luck!

As for the employer letter, ask the employer to add dates of approved leave for the trip.

Thanks for your reply.

Regarding the invitation letter - as the home is in the name of my husband, do we need to provide a single letter written from my point of view, or two letters, one from me and one from my husband?

Equally as we're both will be paying for meals, trips etc, do we need both to provide bank statements and mention that in the invitation letter(s)?

You can write the letter by yourself, husband doesn't need to write too. Add evidence of your immigration status. You don't need to add your bank statements as your parents are self sufficient, but it causes no harm if you do as well.

Please note that being a UK green card holder doesn't mandate that they'd get the visa. But living, working and owning a home in the US carries a lot of weigh with the ECO. It would be difficult to leave all of that behind.

Mention in the letter that you would be fully responsible for their accommodation and feeding whilst they're in the UK.
No sin in failing, you just have to try and try again!
