Child eligiblity for British passport

Post by mahrukh77 » Sat Feb 22, 2025 7:35 pm

Hi all,

Please can someone guide me on the following: Me and my husband are indian citizens. I have a skilled worker visa in the UK and my husband is my dependent, in future if either of us get indefinite Leave to remain visa, will our child born in the UK be eligible for a British passport automatically. Or either me or my husband will have to become a British citizen for our child to become a British citizen.

Kind regards,
Mahrukh

If the child is born in the uk, they can apply to be registered as British on form MN1. This approval and certificate is required before a British passport can be applied for as only a British citizen can apply for a British passport. Your child is not British yet.
