Timeline for applying for British Citizen

Post by chykeo » Mon Mar 10, 2025 6:14 pm

Hi

I got married to my wife before I got my British Citizenship.
She now has Indefinite Leave to Remain ILR and have lived in the UK for 5 years

Does she have to wait for 12 months before applying for British Citizenship as per this rule https://www.gov.uk/apply-citizenship-in ... -to-remain OR can she apply now without waiting for 12 months as she is married to me (a British Citizen) under this rule https://www.gov.uk/apply-citizenship-spouse

She can apply now if she meets all the requirements.

I forgot to add that she switched to 5-year partner route visa in the UK before getting ILR so can she still be able to able for British Citizenship now?

Her route to ILR does not matter. If she has ILR and respects the requirements she can apply.
