Hi All,
I was granted settlement under the Global Talent Visa (GTV) 3-year route, and my dependents now need to extend their visas for a maximum of 18 months to become eligible for their ILR applications.
A colleague in a similar situation required a 26-month extension for his dependents. He applied for a 30-month extension, which was an available option on the system. The Home Office later contacted him to request payment of the additional Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) for the extra six months before processing the application.
My understanding is that once the main applicant obtains ILR, the minimum extension period available for dependents is three years, and the full IHS must be paid even if the dependent needs less than one year to qualify for ILR.
I would appreciate clarification on the following points:
1. Is the minimum dependent extension period indeed three years after the main applicant obtains settlement?
2. Should I apply for the 18 months my dependents actually need and wait to see whether the Home Office requests additional IHS, or will the application proceed without issue?
In my colleague’s case, did he have to apply for three years simply because his dependents needed more than two years, or is the three-year extension mandatory for everyone in this situation?
Any guidance on whether I should apply for an 18-month extension or a full three-year extension would be very helpful.
