I applied for UKF but I’m a bit concerned. I sent the following documents: my passport and birth certificate, my fathers birth certificate and the referee forms with the application. Both birth certificates are original and so is my passport.
I do not have my fathers passport as it is still in use and he travels frequently. Will me not sending this be a problem?
He was born in the UK in 1967 and I read on this forum that as he was born before 1983 that his birth certificate is proof of his citizinship but I’m not sure how it proves his citizinship at the time of my birth. He has been a Brittish citizin all his life.
What you've sent is enough. I didn't include my father's passport either. My father was born in England in the 1940s so he was definitely a citizen. Your dad was born in the UK in 1967, so definitely a citizen. The laws changed after 1983 - after 1983 even if you were born in the UK you were only British at birth if you had a British parent. It's more complicated than that but essentially, after 1983 being born in the UK didn't automatically grant British citizenship.

I’m guessing if the fathers listed on the child’s birth certificate, DNA is not needed?
I read that the law was changed in 2015 and from the date other evidence will need to be provided along with the birth certificate. Apparently this law doesn’t affect children/fathers if the birth certificate was issued before 2015 so I’m guessing DNA isn’t needed as I was born in 1989.
I just don’t understand why people before 2015 and after need to follow different rules.
Yes, if the father is listed on the child's birth certificate, and that birth certificate was issued within one year of the child's birth, no DNA test is needed.
I think the DNA tests for kids born after 2015 is to cut down on fraud. Just do a google search for paternity fraud and citizenship and you'll find all sorts of horror stories of people using non-bio parents on their kids' birth certificates so that they/their kids can get citizenship
How far is your application now? Hope it is going well!
