My daughet naturalization and uk passport

Post by antra » Mon Mar 16, 2015 2:56 pm

Hello,
first of all excuse my English, Its a little bit rusty!?
I'm born in London and have an English passport but leaving in Italy from when I was 1 year old.
Four years ago I had a daughter and would like to naturalize and give her English nationality and an English passport too.
I'm actually not married but live with my Italian wife.
Was looking on the Ukboard web site for an application but can't understand how to go trough all the process.
I'd like to understand if what i want is possible what I need to do.

This is what i found:
https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/s ... UG2014.PDF
https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/s ... _10.13.pdf

If I apply for the passport that will give her even the nationality?
Which is my case?
Thanks a lot for the help

Were your parents British when you were born?

If you were born to British parents or parents that had indefinite leave to remain, you are British Otherwise than Descent which means your daughter would be British by Descent (born abroad). If this is the case, you can apply for a passport directly.

Then how did you obtain a British passport? What year were you born?

As you were born before January 1st 1986, my understanding (unless I have misunderstood) is that you would be British by birth. Are you sure you were naturalised as British citizen? And not just British by birth? In the latter case, you would have applied for your passport directly without naturalisation.

Yes that should be my case, British by birth but thought the two thinks went together. Should check.
So even if I only have British passport can I ask for my daughter too?

My real problem is that Embassy doesn't give any assistance and can't find the real answer...

It seems that you are automatically British otherwise than by descent (assuming that your parents were non-diplomats) and your daughter is automatically British by descent.
