Switching from Tier 2 sponsored visa to dependent / spousal visa

Post by roophysio » Wed Dec 26, 2018 3:52 pm

Hi I was hoping to get some advice if possible. I’ve tried looking through this forum and the HO site with no luck and conflicting info.

I’m a physiotherapist from Australia. I’m currently on a tier 2 sponsored visa which expires in November 2019. My girlfriend has also just started on a separate sponsored visa (expires 2021).

We don’t actually know how long we really want to stay but if possible I would like to change onto her visa as her dependent to be able to change jobs / work as a locum etc. If it’s not going to be possible that’s not a problem and I’ll continue at my current job. I also know the clock resets to 0 if I swap visas.

I just want to know if it is possible to become a dependent on her visa? We will have evidence of living together for the two years such as tenancy agreements, bills, statements etc. We will have evidence of funds, photos, happy to pay the health surcharge, application fee and so on.

If we do go ahead will I have to go back home to apply? How much will it be to apply - normal and express routes? Is there any other evidence we would need to collect as a non married couple?

You can apply to switch within the UK.

Costs £704 visa fee plus IHS (which is doubling on 8th January).

You will need to apply using the new service UKVCAS, see link below.

Cheers CR001. Much appreciated.

I heard about the HS increase. As I said as we don’t know how long we are planning on staying, financially probably not worth it.
