ILR through UK Ancestry - minimum salary/income threshold requirement?

Hello,

I am in the process of applying for my Indefinite Leave to Remain, through the Ancestry route (Ancestry visa first activated March 2014).

I have a couple of questions that I would love some guidance on:

Question 1:
I first arrived in the UK with my Ancestry Visa on 22/03/2014 straight out of University in Australia. Once I had arrived, I started applying for accounting grad programmes with some accounting firms (whilst also working an unrelated job to earn some money while I waited). After a few months I was accepted into a grad programme at an accounting firm to do my accounting qualification and work full-time on a 3.5 year contract. However, the job did not start for 5 months, so I went travelling outside of Europe during this time, and didn't return for the full 5 months. However, I never breached the 180 days in any consecutive 12 month period. My question is, will this period of travel effect the outcome of my application? How can I best explain this absence - in a cover letter?

Question 2:
From June 2018, I finished my contract with the accounting firm and left as a qualified accountant. Instead of finding another employer, I set up a small business (food truck) with a friend. It is an incorporated company and my friend and I are the Directors. My savings went into this, and I have basically been quite poor since we began (all money being put back into the business). Therefore, my personal bank balance has been quite low for some time, with little income coming in. I would really like to know how this will effect my application, and what evidence I should provide to show them my situation? Would it be helpful to receive guarantor letters from my parents in Australia, so from their point of view, if the business fails I will not end up on the streets? I haven't been able to find any thread about this topic on immigrationboards.com, so any help will be greatly appreciated!

Question 3:
"What evidence will you provide to support the reasons for all absences from the UK and Crown Dependencies?" I am still a bit confused with this... I have entered into the online application all the dates I was outside the UK (never work related, so basically all the holidays I have taken since I first activated my Ancestry visa). I have also put together an excel spreadsheet outlining this, and stating if it was paid leave (when I was working full-time) or unpaid leave (between jobs). Should I be providing more evidence?

I have similar questions! I discovered the following on page 10 in researching the guidance about what absences count against you:

“For the categories below, there is no requirement to give a reason for absences if they do not exceed 180 days in a consecutive 12 month period:
• Tier 1 (Exceptional talent)
• Tier 1 (Entrepreneur)
• Tier 1 (Investor)
• UK ancestry
• Retired person of independent means
• Highly skilled migrant (applying under the HSMP Forum judicial review)
• Points-Based System dependants”

So I looks like the reasons don’t matter as long as the timeframe isn’t exceeded! (I researched this a few years ago, and I remember thinking having to explain long absences might disqualify me as I go home to visit my family for 5 or 6 weeks at once every year or two, so I’m not sure if ancestry has always been exempt and I just missed that last time I looked this up, or if that was a change since last then...?)

As for the employment thing, there’s this guidance on page 17 of this:

“A person with leave under UK ancestry is not required to be continuously employed while in the UK. The requirement is for them to stay employed or seek further work.

Applicant employed at date of application
If the applicant is in employment, you can accept one of the following as evidence:
• a letter from their current employer which confirms they will continue in their current job with that employer
• documents to show they are employed, such as recent wage slips
You can accept one of the following as evidence the applicant is self-employed:
• business and/or company accounts
• official letter from a registered accountant which confirms self-employment
• official tax documentation

This is not an exhaustive list. For examples of other kinds of documentation a self- employed applicant can produce, see: Sponsor applications appendix A - supporting documents for sponsor applications, which includes types of evidence self-employed people can provide in table 5.
If the applicant provides other documentation as evidence to show they are self- employed and running their own business but you are not sure if you can accept it, you must speak to your line manager.

Applicant unemployed at date of application
If the applicant is unemployed, you must ask for evidence of their employment record throughout their 5 years in this category and of any attempts they are making to find work. You may grant the application if there is evidence the applicant is currently working or genuinely looking for work.
If it is clear the applicant was not employed throughout the 5 years, you must be satisfied that they have lawfully supported themselves without access to public funds.”

Which sounds hopeful for self-employed ancestry residents with little income, as long as you look like you’re definitely trying to work. (I’m in exactly the same boat there.) We seem to be exempt from the continuous employment requirement... which again, seems too good to be true. But that does seem to be what it’s saying!

Anyway, check with an immigration specialist for sure as I’m just another applicant, but hopefully this helps!

Hello,

I am applying for ILR through the UK Ancestry route. Is there any minimum salary threshold that I have to meet to be eligible?

They clearly want to see that I can support myself and not rely on public funds once I am granted ILR, however how much income do you need as a minimum to show this? It doesn't seem clear.

Thre is no minimum income level for ancestry to ILR.

Hello,

I am currently applying for ILR through Ancestry route.

From my understanding, during the online application, I will have the opportunity to upload all my scanned documents and attach to my online application.

When I then book and go along to my session with UKVCAS/Sopra Steria will I need to take all the same documents (originals)?

Will they do a check from what is uploaded to my online application back to the originals I bring? Or are originals not necessary?
