Use Married Name or Maiden Name on new Visa application?

Post by CALLUMRF23 » Wed Jul 24, 2019 7:59 am

Hi all,

First time poster to this board, so apologies if this topic has been posted incorrectly, any direction is appreciated!

Anyhow, my fiancée & I are engaged to be married later this year. Once married we will be applying for her UK Spouse Visa (currently she has a Tourist Visa - she has a Ukrainian passport but resides & works in Germany). My question is;

Is it acceptable to apply for the Spouse Visa in her maiden name?

We will have the marriage certificate as proof of our marriage, so we’ll be sure to provide this as evidence in her application. Once approved & she is in the UK she will change to her married name on her passport (& of course we’ll have to update the Visa), plus any other required documents.

We would prefer to do it this way due to the timings & bureaucracy in Ukraine & Germany.

Any advice will be very much appreciated.

Thank you,

Callum

She should apply with the name in her passport.

Where are you getting married, UK or abroad??

Thanks for coming back so quick, that’s really helpful.

We’re getting married abroad (we know we cannot get married in the UK on her tourist visa).

Yes your understanding is correct. But also remember that changing maiden name into married name isn't mandatory for visa purposes.

OLS Language Assessment Validity for UK Spouse Visa Application

Post by CALLUMRF23 » Thu Oct 31, 2019 2:06 pm

Hi,

As part of her Erasmus in 2017, my wife, completed the OLS Language Assessment and achieved a Level C1 (completed on 21.12.17).

Firstly, is this assessment sufficient to prove her English Language? If so, does it remain valid now? (I've read that it can be valid for up to 2 years but need 100% clarity).

Should a further Language Assessment be required are you able to advise how/where this is to be completed?

NB. Her degree is from Germany and the Erasmus was completed at the University of Kent.

Really appreciate your help and look forward to hearing from you.

Online Linguistic Support is designed for Erasmus students to improve their english language before/while starting studies at another European country which wont work as a substitute to meet the English language requirement for spouse visa. Simply she should sit for A1 test or even higher B1 or get her degree be assessed through Naric under their red route.

Thank you, this is helpful.

I spoke with NARIC before I posted & as I understood from what the lady said, my wife cannot use the red route as not all of her degree was taught in English (mainly German, parts in English) - are you able to shed some light on this?

I may well call them back for clarity in the morning but if you have any additional advice that would be great 👍🏻

NARIC assessment and sitting for A1/B1 ielts life skills test will cost you almost same so better to simply pass B1 test to meet the present need of A1 and also to meet the English language requirement for future applications too.

As a “sponsor” do I have to provide actual passport or a photocopy?

Post by CALLUMRF23 » Sun Nov 24, 2019 2:04 pm

Hi,

As my wife’s sponsor & as part of her Spouse Visa Application I understand I have to provide a copy of my passport biometrics page & also proof of my British Citizenship, by way of my passport - do they need to have my actual passport or is a photocopy of the entire passport sufficient?

In addition, my wife only has a PDF copy of her IELTS certificate - will this suffice &/or will they require the original?

Thanks for in advance for your help,

Callum

1. Please stick to one topic for all your questions.

2. Copy of your passport is sufficient.
