No. You don't send any documents by post unless otherwise asked to. All supporting documents, including passports, are scanned and uploaded onto the UKVCAS site. The minimum requirement is to scan all pages with stamps on them. I personally chose to scan all pages, even the empty ones, for thoroughness' sake.
There's more to "Good Character" than not having committed any crimes...

From memory, the UKVCAS site does tell you that appointments are released a month in advance, every day. This means every day new appointments are released for a date that takes place a month in the future. If there is high demand, it is not surprising that you cannot find a date that is sooner than 7th May, specially for free appointments. A month's wait is the rule of thumb. Totally normal.
