1
Marriage certificate will suffice. There’s no requirement to produce a document issued in the UK.
2
This isn’t an issue and no need to disclose. It’s not an offence. At this time HMRC finalises all tax payers final tax liability. I’m waiting myself for the final number, hopefully a refund.

Thank you for your prompt response.

Someone advised to explain the HMRC tax in a cover letter. Is it necessary? Or can I leave it safely?

Thanks again.

It's not an issue, as long as you keep to payment arrangements with HMRC.
It would be different if you default, you are taken to court, maybe guilty of tax evasion (a crime).

Thank you for your quick response.

Is this the correct form for applying for naturalisation as a spouse of British citizen?
https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... on-form-an

I believe I have to choose the 'you can apply online' as I am in the UK (Scotland):

Details
If you do not live in the Channel Islands, Isle of Man or a British Overseas Territory, you can apply online.

Thanks

Thank you.
  • When entering the under 18 child information, application is asking for National ID Card. The current one is expired. Should I enter it anyway?
  • Should we mention in the cover letter that we applied for a renewal?

Foreign national ID card is irrelevant to british naturalisation. You can ignore this question.

Thank you,

One more question, please.

My spouse had a different last name before marriage, which was changed to my first name after marriage. We never mentioned it in any of our previous applications, as the current qualifications, ID cards, and passports are not in the changed name, and we have never used the old name since entering the UK. However, the marriage certificate is in the previous name.

In this case, what should we do? Because we would be asked to provide the marriage certificate, which is in a different name, but we never mentioned the change of name in any of our applications.

Please advise.

What is the legal name of the applicant? Definitely will need to explain why the marriage certificate has a different name.

The legal name is now Old Firstname and my Last Name. This was changed in 2003 when we got married. The undergraduate degree and birth certificate have this name. However, all the passports, ID cards, and MSc degree (earned in the UK) have the changed name. It was due to the marriage, not for any other reason.

The form AN has asked the following questions, and we answered as follows:
  • Why has another name known you? Marriage or civil partnership
  • If you legally changed your name, when did you do this (if applicable)? 6 December 2003
  • Have you ever entered the UK using this name? No
Would that be enough, or should we write a cover letter explaining the change? There was no official or legal letter or certificate of change. It was simply changed on the ID cards and passports after marriage, which is a common practice in our home country.

Please advise

Hi contorted_svy, CR001, alterhase58, or ANYONE,

Kindly advise? This is the only thing stopping me from submitting my application. Please advise.

Your post isn't very clear on the names issue. Please explain as follows.

1. Name at birth and prior to marriage, eg AAA BBB

2. Current name post marriage, eg AAA CCC

3. Name on all official documents, including current passport, eg AAA BBB or is it AAA CCC?

Note that a marriage certificate always has the female name as the name prior to marriage.

Hi CR001,

Thanks a million for your response. Apologies if my reply was not clear.
  • So, the old name was (for example), Sarah Johnes. The name was changed to the spouse's last name Paul Smith (for example). So the new name since 2004 is Sarah Smith.
  • The marriage certificate and the birth certificate (obviously) have the old name Sarah Johnes; all the new documents from 2004 until today have the new name Sarah Smith. This includes all the passports ever produced, home country ID cards, BRP and PG degree. We never used the old name to make any applications anywhere, including the UKVI.
I hope this is clear now :)

Hi CR001,

They asked the following questions in the application when we mentioned the old and new name.

Why have you been known by another name?
We responded with Marriage or civil partnership

If you legally changed your name, when did you do this (if applicable)?
We responded with our wedding date.

Have you ever entered the UK using this name?
We said No

Do we still need to submit any Cover Letter explaining this or spouse birth certificate, or anything?

You really are overthinking this completely. Simply answer the questions honestly and where it asks for other or previous names state her pre marriage name.

Nothing needs explaining and a birth certificate not required!!!

Hi CR001 and Everyone,

Thank you for your prompt response and support.

Could you please share the link to download the Parent Consent Form for Children <18 for Naturalisation? I was only able to find this https://visas-immigration.service.gov.u ... onsent.pdf. Not sure if this is the correct one.

Please advise.
