Spouse visa BRP - National Insurance

Post by Artur111 » Sun Jan 15, 2017 6:48 pm

Hi everyone,

My wife was granted spouse visa last month and due to arrive next week.

Is it true that she doesn't need to apply for NI number, as her NI number is printed on the BRP card she'll collect once she's arrived?

Thank you,
Artur

No, it is not true. NI number has nothing to do with Home Office visa applications.

She will have to apply for her NI number through Job Centre.

Thank you CR001 for a quick reply,

I must have misunderstood this page on government website:
https://www.gov.uk/apply-national-insurance-number

It's a bit confusing that they put such a misleading info there.

Had no idea about, certainly wasn't the case for any of my applications and BRPs. But it might well be relevant to PBS route visas.

I personally think you have just misunderstood. Because usually when a person starts working a paid job or actively seeking work then job center issues the national insurance number. And I think in subsequent extensions when on the form the applicants mention it's Nino number then it more likely be saved inside the BRP chip.
The opinion expressed as above is neither a professional advice nor contesting/competing to other member's opinion/advice.

Yes you misunderstood

This page is referring to those who have already applied for NI number and now returning to United kingdom as NI issued only once

If your wife never applied for NI before then she need to contact 0345 600 0643
