Hi CR001,

I'm sorry, but I am under extreme stress as I'm very close to reaching my 10 year. HO changes rules literally every few months to make it harder for us. I have been living in other western countries and have never seen other countries make such frequent changes to their immigration rules every few months. That's why I wanted to pay £25k so they don't abolish 10 year rule in the next year or so. Sorry again.

Your post was interesting.

There is already a thread discussing the fee increase this year. The government has laid out, by Order, the maximum ILR fees (among other fees) until 2020 (£3240). So really, fee increases should not come as a surprise. In the thread mentioned above, one member made a calculated guess at what the fees this year may be. And s/he was very close to the actual increase. So, we can make a calculated guess at what the increase will be next year.

One of the reasons that I frequented this forum during my immigration journey (and continue to frequent it) is because the forum hive mind, as moderator noajthan used to call it, would transmit any updates with breathtaking speed and we (including those who have been through the mill ourselves) would learn from it. This forum is probably a better place to keep abreast of immigration news than the Home Office website.

I fail to understand why people/members think HO is abolishing the 10 year long residence route.

Based on your previous post, what 'changes' are you referring to??

Thank you Secret Simon. This forum is indeed very very useful. Agree, they will increase the fees by roughly 20% a year until they reach the maximum of £3250 by 2020.

Thanks CR001. HO hasn't made any significant changes to 10 year rule recently. I was just worried that they just abolish it completely in the next year or so. My calculation was was like this: 7000 people apply for long residency every year. They pay about £15-20m in fees. So if we increase the fees to £25k, the fee revenue would increase to £175m each year and it would make it much much less likely for 10 year rule to be abolished. HO is run by humans too and humans are greedy.

Don't confuse rule changes with fee increases. They are separate issues completely.

If HO choose to, as some point, removed 10 years ILR, it makes no difference to what fees are charged and the fees charged won't stop them from removing a category if they wish to. You forget that many people apply for ILR based on 5 years residence, probably more than 10 year LR.

Hopefully the government is too busy with Brexit so they forget about LR. My estimates suggest very few people can stay in the UK legally for 10 years nowadays since HO abolished Tier 1 G and PSW. So the number of LR applicants should come down significantly from beginning of 2018.

Hopefully the government is too busy with Brexit so they forget about LR. My estimates suggest very few people can stay in the UK legally for 10 years nowadays since HO abolished Tier 1 G and PSW. So the number of LR applicants should come down significantly from beginning of 2018. There are many visa routes used to combine time for LR applications, not just Tier 1 G or PSW, so your statement above is incorrect.

As I said I agree with you, My hope was that it may matter.

With your second point I respectfully disagree. Majority of LR applicants are former students because anybody coming here with Tier 2 or Tier 1, they can get the ILR in 5 years. So since HO implemented Tier 4 time caps and abolished PSW, It will have an effect on the numbers. Alot of PSW people will reach their 10 year in 2017 so beginning 2018, numbers would come down substantially. Again, I'm not saying there won't be any but numbers would come down.

We owe a debt of gratitude to British people for letting us in. I hope they choose someone really strong like Nigel as the next home secretary who can truly for once increase visa fees. £2300 is ridiculously cheap for a British settlement and frankly is insulting. Even a Macbook pro is more expensive.

No one, of course, is forcing you to remain in the UK and if you have £25k to pay HO, I am sure they will welcome your donation.

I honestly don't understand your argument and perhaps you should rather focus your energy on your ILR LR application.

This topic is going nowhere and you will find no support for what you want to petition.
