Chargeable call to Home Office

Post by londonukguy » Wed Jul 12, 2017 3:04 am

I would like to know that how home office charge if I want to check status of my spouse's application
As I understand in case of email have to pay in advance by credit card.
How they take payment when make a phone call as I see this a land line 020(London)number.
It does not look a premier rate number.
If they charge at the beginning then how long call can last?

Best advice will be to ask your telephone/mobile operator to calculate the charges for this number despite it seems like london local number.
The opinion expressed as above is neither a professional advice nor contesting/competing to other member's opinion/advice.

But question is how charges would incur?
Would it be charged by phone service as other premier rate number(although it does not look premier rate number)
Or home office advisor will take separate payment by card at the end of call?

They block a £20 charge against your credit/debit card by making you give the card details before you speak to an advisor. This will show on your bank statement for up to 5 days. However, after 5 days the transaction shows on your account as the true cost at £1.37 per minute. So, if you are on the phone to them for 10 minutes it costs you £13.70. This is a separate charge. You will also be charged whatever your service provider charges you for the cost of the call on your phone bill.

Unless you are calling them to escalate your case after waiting 60 working days for a decision it is really not worth calling them as they do not give you any specific or even useful information. Everything they are able to tell you is already well documented on several of the threads on this forum e.g.

immigration-for-family-members/still-wa ... 34104.html

They tell everbody the same thing!
I'm not an expert and only answer from my personal experience and understanding of the rules. Spouse Settlement Visa Granted for my wife July 2017. You should not take my advice as absolute.
