Advice on getting married young - on a student visa

Post by Robstin2014 » Tue Dec 12, 2017 2:06 pm

Hi,

This is purely a question for people who have applied for or are planning to apply for the spouse visa from a student visa..

I know this isn't quite an immigration heavy question but have any of you got married either whilst you were still studying at university / upon completion of university?

If so how old were you both at the time? - I'm having some problems with family saying that we are both too young and causing all sorts of other issues.

Just wondering if any of you have wanted to stay with you partner and not be separated due to visa's expiring etc and therefore going down the spouse visa route.

P.s. I understand it is not a direct requirement to get married/be engaged in order to meet the spouse visa requirements (you can have lived together for 2 years etc) - but we are both interested in getting married in order to meet the requirements and just personal choice.

This really won't add any value and it will merely become a long winded topic of all the members complaining about how long they have waited for their partners to get a visa from India/Pakistan/Jamaica/Bangladesh or trying to regulise their stay etc etc etc.

You need to do what you feel is right for you. No one on the forum can make this decision for you.

Many members have wanted to stay but were not able, some even being deported due to overstaying.

You cannot bring emotion into your dealings with HO as they don't base decisions on emotions.

Although the official legal age for marriage in England, Wales and Northern Ireland is 18, children can marry from 16 with parental consent. In Scotland, the legal age for marriage is 16. In some communities across the UK this can result in forced child marriage whereby parents can consent on behalf of their children.
