I am waiting for my citizenship application to finalize and submitted it 2 and half years ago. My wife applied at the same time and she got her citizenship on January 2018 and our two children applied after my wife and their applications went through so now my whole family are Irish citizens expect for me. This is affecting me mentally and my career as a Doctor because as a non-EEA, I am prohibited from taking part in certain training to progress my career. Right now I should be a Registrar to a consultant and not a SHO. I took a serious career dive to come here and now I am further back than square one because of this situation. My brother in law had an appointment with his Solicitor xxxxxxxx this morning and I went to see if there is something that can be done for my case. This is very interesting.

Actually, two things and I am writing this because I think that people do now know that they can take a case against Irish State for the delay. She said that the delay in my case is terrible and totally illegal. After some advice, She sent a warning letter to the Citizenship processing centre telling them that if they don't deal with my case in 14 days that I will take a High Court case against the State. If they don't make a decision, then I can go straight to High Court after a few weeks and ask the Court to force the State to make a decision. She said that they will make a decision in my case very soon after High Court case is brought and the State lawyers will say to the Court that I should not have brought the case because they were just about to make a decision in my case. That means that they won't pay my costs of the case if successful. If I got to High Court, I will have to pay her and the Barrister to make the case.

The fee is ok so I am going to High Court if I don't get a decision. I am happy now because I know that this is the ending for me. I made freedom of information request and sent reminders and got nothing. When we were sitting in the waiting area this morning, another couple waiting told us that they just got decisions because of a warning letter from solicitors and had just come in with a thank you gift and card. All the people waiting for an answer for a long time should put pressure on the Citizenship section and do not suffer like me for 2.5 years. I should have made this decision sooner.

Hi Folks,
I Was wondering if any of those delayed applications has received any good response recently. I am still waiting on advanced stage since September 2018. Have send an email last month and been told that the application continues to be processed. Due to fact that I didn't take any serious action in relation to this delay, the department might think that I can wait for ever and they will hold my application for longer. For this I have decided to talk to a solicitor and I will do my best to take the case further if I received the green light from him.

Applied in November ‘16. Advanced stage since October 2018, No update except copy paste email that it continues to be processed.
Need guidance re:FOI request. Do I need to send letter to them or an email will be enough. Generally what information do they give? If they only give generic information then I doubt it provides any benefit.

Here is the document that you can use. You have to sne d them by post don't forget to include a copy of your proof of identity.

They should send you all details on your file including their notes and thoughts on you.

I ama waiting my file to come.
Once I receive it I will share some insights with you.

But I think you should go ahead and request it, in this way you can understand what is wrong with your case.

Bro i applied in june 2016 and got my 2nd stage letter through solicitor when she asked them for an update. I am still waiting more than 2 and half years waiting...i dont think this FOI thing is gonna make any difference. All we need to do is to sue them bring them to court through some good barrister. Thats it

Is there any update regarding your situation? has the department contacted your solicitor after sending the letter to them?

Thanks for sharing. Did you ask for the internal review by yourself or asked a solicitor for assistance? Thank you and hope you hear good news soon. Did they not explain in the letter why they were requesting the same things? This is so strange if you were already in 2nd stage.

So I applied based on Irish assossiation, I was already on stage two, I was asked for information for the last 5 years. I thought it was too much tbh since when I applied in 2016 none of this was requested. Again that office is all over the place. And I seeked internal review myself, will wait a month now and if nothing happens I’ll look for legal advice.

Thanks for meeting me on last Friday, here is a points I discussed with you to ask in parliament.
I applied citizenship in Sep 2017 and till date I m waiting for citizenship approval as I came to Ireland in 2009 and these 10 years I don't have any criminal record or I never got any single cent on any kind of benefit from Government.
On INIS web site its clearly said for straight forward cases they have decision in 6 months but here I m still waiting after 15 months.
Department of justice says citizenship is a privilege not a right, I have no problem with that but than why it's taking soo long to take decisions on any individual application, I know many people who are waiting from last two and half years, when it comes to minster of Finance wife application then no one tell her citizenship is privilege not a right ? Did she wait more than 15 months or department of justice deal her application with in 6 months ?
I feel like after living in Ireland from last 10 years department of justice is making fun out of us, after 10 years law fully resident I still cant call my self Irish citizen and it's a shame.
When ever I tried to reach Citizenship department I always get copy pasted reply that they need to to background checks from different departments, I have no issues with that but than how u justify 15 months delay?
As a part of immigrants community I can tell you we was very pleased with Alan Shatter, he reduced citizenship time from 3 year to with in 6 months but after him it was francess Fitzgerald and current minister of justice who created back log again.
In last few citizenship ceremonies we see lot of British and EU people applying citizenship but I wonder do they have any more rights than any non EU?
Right now it's very clear that Gov want to talk about integration and immigrants but when its come to real work then we have to wait for citizenship for long time.
When its come to photoshoots then nearly every minster wants to stand beside Ibrahim Halawa but then you forget that Ibrahim halawa gets you on newspaper but he wont gets you any votes in next Election.
So please I want to request if you raise these concerns in parliament questions and if Minster of Justice can answer these questions.

Today the lady on the phone told that my application is being prepared for submission to the minister.
TBH can’t be sure re: the honesty and truth as per the experience of people on these forums. But that was the first time I got this answer.
