PBS Tier-2 dependent IHS query

Post by jdsenuk » Wed Jan 03, 2018 1:51 am

Hi, I'm hoping some of you might be able to help me.

I am an Indian passport holder and got my ILR on 3-Nov-2017.

Currently, my family (wife, son born in India) is on a dependent Tier-2 visa which is expiring on 15-Jan-2018. As the date of entry to the UK for wife and son is 3-May-2013 they become eligible for ILR in May-2018, so until then, I need to extend their current PBS Tier-2 dependent.

The application and documentation are very straightforward but I am stuck with IHS payment. I wish to pay only for 1 year, but the IHS payment page asks for the main applicant's visa details and expiry date, which is valid until 2024. I think that I will be charged for 3 years, and the excess will be returned back to me, but is there any way that I can pay only for 1 year.

I have filled up the applications 4 times (and now can do it in record time!!) with different permutations, such as leaving my name out in the application, trying to submit the IHS without my details, but the IHS system won't proceed without my details. I have called the government's helpline 3 times since the beginning of December, and each time they say that I should be able to submit without my details in the IHS page (and express my 1-year wish in the covering letter) but the IHS system won't proceed without my details. Don't know where I am going wrong. Any advice here will be great. Also, I don't think that I came across a location to type up the covering letter. Is this something that has to be done separately to the online application?

I have asked about in my network and have come across a guy whose friend is said to have the same problem, so he gave his ILR visa expiry as 1 year and paid only 1 year's IHS and got the PBS Tier-2 dependent for his wife and kid. I have spoken about this approach in my office with the person who handles visas and CoS, and I have been strictly advised not to give any wrong dates in visa application process.

Any ideas on the best step forward so that I pay IHS for 1 year?

Many Thanks

As the link vinny provided said, PBS Dependent extension is for 3 years, you cannot 'choose' a lesser time. IHS is £600 per applicant.

Have you tried to pay the IHS separately on the IHS website and then only inputting the number? See link below.

Yes, I have tried to pay directly at IHS site without giving my reference, and I am asked to pay either for 3 years

I have also read the rule 319.D.A.ii, which states that a visa will be granted for 3 years
