Switching from Tier 2 (General) to a dependant visa.

Post by bking » Fri Feb 16, 2018 3:24 pm

Hi there,

My wife and I are both in the UK on Tier 2 (General) Visas. We have been here since January 2017. We have separate Visas but both work at the same establishment.

I am considering changing careers or potentially studying further. Am I able to change my Tier 2 (General) to a dependent visa? What does this do to my chances of getting IDLR? Am I able to do any job on a dependent visa and study?

If there are other forums dealing with this, please do point me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance.

Yes you can.
What does this do to my chances of getting IDLR? ?
It resets your clock and a new 5 year requirement for ILR. You cannot combine main Tier 2 time with Tier 2 dependent time to make up 5 years.

Yes and yes.

This one where you have posted.

Thanks for your reply. Will my wife then be able to get IDLR before once she has been in the country for 5 years?

Your wife will qualify for ILR after 5 years on Tier 2 General main visa if she meets all the requirements. You switching to her dependent doesn't change her path, only changes your path.
