SET(M) ILR valid from date - postal vs. premium

Post by mrsgrnwd » Wed Mar 07, 2018 10:41 am

After 5 years on leave to remain as wife to a Brit, I'm finally on my way to applying for SET(M) ILR!

After trawling through past posts, a couple of things still remain in doubt. I'd be grateful for any of your assistance, please.

Looking at the timelines people have shared, it may take 4-6 months for postal applications to be approved and BRP sent out. Does anyone know what the "valid from" date of ILR status on the new BRP would be -- is it the application date, or date when last leave (visa) expired, or the date ILR is approved?

The reason I ask is because I'm weighing the pros and cons between postal and premium service centre application method. If indeed the ILR "starts" 4-6 months after for postal application, then one big plus for premium service is that it would cut out the time one is in "limbo" so to speak. It also cuts down on the time one needs to wait before one can apply for British citizenship (1 year vs. up to 1.5 yrs for postal).

Can anyone please confirm from personal experience their (postal) ILR "valid from" date per query above?

Many thanks in advance!

Date of approval and ILR granted. It is not 'tagged on' to the expiry of your last visa.

SET (M) ILR Does my husband need to attend PSC too?

Post by mrsgrnwd » Wed Mar 07, 2018 3:53 pm

Hi!
Could anyone kindly advise as to whether my husband needs to attend with me for my SET(M) ILR application at a PSC (Cardiff), please? Do we both need to be there? He's in the UK, just difficult to take time off work!
Thanks!

Yes, he needs to attend with you. If he cannot, then he needs to write a letter of support and also state the reasons why he cannot attend the appointment with you.
