Spouse visa extension: when to apply?

Hello, and apologies if this is an obvious question — it's not for me, after reading the gov website!

I am coming to the end of my first Spouse visa and need to apply for extension — but I can't work out WHEN to do so. The visa is actually for 33 months, even though when I applied the documentation said it was 30 months (my residence permit card expires after 33 months).

The gov website says the earliest I can apply is 28 days before the visa expires, but I can't work out if that's the 30 months or the 33 months? I don't want to apply too early OR too late!

Can anyone assist?

What date did you enter the UK on your current visa?

The date of approval was 10 December 2015, I entered the UK on 30 December 2015 — so 30 months after that would be 30 June 2018, and my Biometric Residence Permit card says it expires 10 Sept 2018.

I think you should be able to apply even a day before your visa expires on your BRP (Date Valid Until) ?

Just for my clarity CR001. and the latest date is always seen by the date on BRP - Is this correct ?
Because i applied for my wife's extension just yesterday, here BRP issue date was 15 Nov 2015 and expiry on BRP date was 14 June 2018 - This should be ok right ?

Thank you CR001 — you seem certain about this and I don't doubt you. It does still seem ambiguous though, given that there are three dates:
— date approval was given (10 Dec 2015)
— date entered UK ( 30 Dec 2015)
— date of expiry of BRP (10 Sept 2018)

Yes!! For spouse visas, your residence clock starts from the date you enter the UK. You can apply any time within 28 days before reaching 30 months OR before your visa expires.
